The Vollmer family is outdoorsy; enjoying swimming, skiing, bike riding, walking,
hiking and camping. Robert (41), Cathy (38), Macrina (4) and Jackson (2) now want
to tackle the healthy side of eating.
The Vollmers feel that instilling a proper sense of diet into their young children
can be challenging. Cathy wants to keep a healthy, nutritional balance at the front
of the daily priority list. The family eats both breakfast and dinner together.
To start the day, they have some fruit with a mix of cereal or oatmeal and dinner
is usually meat or fish, two vegetables and a starch.
Cathy suggests trying to eat fruits and vegetables with some regularity. She packs
the kids' lunches for day care and includes a protein, a fruit, a vegetable and
a starch. Fruit and yogurt for desert instead of cookies is another tip of hers.
The couple talks to their kids about what's healthy and the consequences of not
eating healthy. Cathy feels it's important for her to set an example so she invites
the kids into the kitchen to help make healthy snacks.
