Hickman Family

Rebecca (36) is the single mother of Xavier (13), Alexandria (9) and Madison (3) but it's Grandma Dorothy (67) who is the glue that keeps them together. A family in the true sense of the word, the Hickmans try to keep things interesting and active and are now fitting health into their lives.

Over the past two years, Rebecca has lost nearly 60 pounds and her children have seen first hand the impact of a healthy lifestyle. Rebecca wants to be an example to her children that being healthy does not have to be cumbersome or boring. She believes that healthy eating does not limit you to bland recipes and starving yourself.

With her daughter, Alexandria, being asthmatic, Rebecca worries that additional weight will only intensify her condition. She hopes that the pledge will show Alexandria how to manage her weight and control her asthma.

Being a single mom, it's tough for Rebecca to make sure all her children are adopting healthy eating habits. She tries to integrate fruits and vegetables into new and current recipes. And she tries to add various sports and games that the whole family can play together outside or on the playground.

Rebecca's biggest challenge is to get her children to agree to be part of the pledge and to be open to new ways of thinking. Plus, in the back of her mind, there's always the struggle to keep off the weight she's already lost as an example to her kids.
